7 Attributes of an Entrepreneur / Business Owner that will give you as much success and wealth as you desire
You’ve read dozens of great books on how to achieve business success. Maybe you’ve spent a small fortune on training courses and business coaching sessions. No doubt you work incredibly hard and you are 100% determined to succeed. And yet, the success and wealth you desire can be elusive. Why is that so often the case for so many?
My belief is that the foundations for success in business, and in life, come from within. It is our perspective and attitude that will largely determine the degree of our success. It is our personal attributes and mindset that give us that extra edge to carry on when most others will quit.
Paul Gorman, a brilliant marketeer and coach, and Richard Branson were the first mentors who really impressed upon me that it’s our fundamental, core attributes that make the difference. They demonstrated the overriding attributes that every highly successful entrepreneur and self-made business owner has.
I’ve distilled these down to the seven attributes of an entrepreneur I think are key:
- Never give up on your dream, under any circumstances. Develop the tenacity to keep driving through, no matter what. There are many great quotes on this theme but I particularly like this one
- Believe in yourself. Believe you can succeed to the highest level. You know the most fascinating thing about highly successful business owners is that they are just like you and me. 99 times in a hundred you’d never tell the millionaire from the ordinary person, outside of his or her trappings of wealth. Why? Because they are ordinary people. All they’ve done is believe they can achieve, then focus all their efforts on reaching their goal. You can do the same.
- Be a possibility-thinker. Change your paradigm from “this can’t be done in my business” — to “How can I apply this strategy I learned today to my business.”
- COMMIT to achieving the growth you want. Don’t just be determined to succeed, Commit to taking daily action towards building your business and creating quantum growth.
- Put passion into everything you do. Remember what Robert Shnayerson said, “Put into your business all the passion and intensity of your last will as though it were going to be carved in stone and signed with your blood.”
- Understand that marketing your business is the lifeblood of your success. Become a master marketer. Be prepared to continually test new marketing strategies and tactics. Test and learn from every piece of marketing you undertake. Of course, you should read the books and study the training courses but its the consistent application of your own learnings that will ultimately propel your business forward.
- Aim to optimize everything, every penny you invest, every effort you put in, every hour you devote. Any waste, under-use, or misuse of any element in your business is costing you money or opportunity. So measurement and management are vital success factors
I don’t consider any of the above to be a controversial view, it’s widely accepted and there are studies and science that back this up. Most successful entrepreneurs and business owners will testify to this. The real key is in the consistent, daily application of these attributes.
